Hi - noticed Jenuine's post replaces Mich's detailed post of yesterday re new Strombo show - was TOO SOON, TOO SOON !

Steph A. said...

Anonymous @ 9:39 - Mich's detailed comment is still posted under the heading of "The Weekly Dish" :-)

since it's syndicated, the show will have to go on. no blowing it off for various reasons. and since it's not live, it should be easier to schedule the taping.

and it looks like there will be podcasts!

not sure if i will be listening as the time slot doesn't really work for me and i'm not watching 'the hour' this season but it definately looks interesting.

Podcasts are AMAZING! that is exactly what I want and need! So excited...

^^^^^^

What was too soon? My posting of the press release that crossed my desk?

It will be interesting to see how the show goes.

Why wouldn't it be live?

Anonymous said...

wondering if there will be audience interaction in the same "facebook/myspace" way...i enjoyed that...

Anonymous said...

The myspace/facebook thing was really interesting and fun... it would be nice if that continued. Though I was really weirded out the few times he read any of my comments...

Anonymous said...

haha. as was i...but i thought it was great - created a nice online community and i met some great people through that!

I'm looking forward to the return of the radio show. I was quite disappointed by the way the Standard Radio (CFRB/CJAD) edition sort of fizzled out in the last few months of its existence. I agree with "668" that with the expansion to more/new markets the show will need to stay consistent in order to meet audience expectations.

Why none in Montreal??
And what about Bob?
Where is Bob in all this?

Jenuine said...

Anon 9:39,
I meant no disrespect to Mich by posting. After checking out info on my station, decided to make "user-friendly" links and wanted to showcase George's introduction.
It's all about access, babe.
: )

Barb,
I was totally wondering the same thing! What about, "The Team"?
: O

jenuine,

I'm glad you posted it... I merely wanted to share the press release so that someone would know it was common knowledge and that we could talk about the show going back on the air... well, at least after I got over the shock of seeing the press release in my inbox right after saying his name (could that be a Beetlejuice kind of thing?)...

I hadn't noticed that Bob was missing from the announcement. Odd. Hmmm... well, I guess we'll find out what the buzz is soon enough.

I'm just glad there will be something new and interesting to listen to during my Sunday afternoon writing sessions. I really need some new music...

Janna said...

I heard that it won't be live that it will be syndicated there for pre taped... Sadly I think the live stuff will go... I like it too but it ended up being such a frenzy the last time.

I hope BOB and Alex come with. I love their dynamic. When it is properly planned.

Anonymous said...

yes, but his introduction talks about calls and audience interaction...so i'm imagining that somewhere it is live...i'm going to guess the toronto/hamilton stuff will be live then?

Steph A. said...

I'm thinking that the show will be live. If you note the start times in the different cities and consider the various timezones, they all correspond with Toronto (EST).

Barbara said...

seems to me it will be live... I will ask George the details when I go to The Hour on Tuesday...

I thought the press release mentioned a live show - Mich thanks for the post by the way and didn't realize it was displayed under the "The Weekly Dish" ! I had also wondered where Bob fits in these days ? I recall his fairly lengthy absence from the old show at one point, which did fizzle out in the end. Bob and George sometimes expressed opposing points of view which kept it interesting.

Janna said...

Hey I am all about live Strombo Show. I like participating however, I would also be much appreciated to have a podcast. 5-8pm my time is not a time when I will be home... LOL!

Jenuine said...

"Stroumboulopoulos..."
"Stroumboulopoulos....."
"Stroumboulopoulos......."

DAMN, Mich, it didn't work!
Guess I'll have to settle for the show.
; )

According to the press release (quoted directly):
"Airing live across Canada, The Strombo Show will mix
insightful conversations, celebrity interviews, ground-breaking music and
audience interaction in an open-line weekly three-hour live show."

The word LIVE is used many times throughout the PR, including in the title... so I guess it's live.

I would think that the podcasts will be a "best of" thing rather than the whole radio show... three hours is a freakin' long podcast.

jenuine, you crack me up. The weird thing is that every time I mention something about Stroumboulopoulos or The Hour, something shows up in my email. The PR was the first, and yesterday I finally got ticket confirmation for the show next week. I'm really hoping that's a good omen for me...

668 aka neighbour of the beast said...

hey,

the reason i had assumed it was not live was because most shows in syndication are not live and when i clicked on the toronto link, i could have sworn the times said 2-5, which was the same time it airs out on the west coast.

however, surprise surprise my motor skills are not so good early in the morning and now i see that the times correspond.

although i do find it interesting that the commitment to a two hour live show last year seemed too much. and yet.....

Janna said...

OH NO! Thanks for looking again for us... sadly, I think the new Strombo show will be an "only when I can" deal... mostly because it will air in my time zone...3-6pm... *sigh* such is life.

668, I always wanted more show and now that I got it... I am not sure I want it! LOL!

Oh yah, and all I can think of is....

"Shake, Shake, Shake Senora, Shake Your Body Line..."

Anonymous said...

Yeah, but you know what? If you can only catch the podcasts, that could be a good thing... as it will probably contain the best of... three hours takes A LOT of filler... so really, if they wittle the podcast down to an hour... it will be a good thing. I'm not a fan of filler, but maybe that has more to do with the fact that I often have to program filler, and it's a PITA. But maybe that's just me.

I totally posted this in the wrong place so here it is here...

...'I'm going to put on a tie'
No, really, says Gemini Awards host George Stroumboulopoulos"...

The headline to a hilarious interview in the Toronto Star:

Great article. Very funny... Interesting questions.

I found it while I was working in my office today... I really had to work hard to not laugh out loud as my boss was in the room (and I was making it look like I was working hard)...

I must admit, I was surprised but very impressed with his Canadian show on a deserted island choice... love that show.

anyone know if we can watch the geminis onine anywhere? someone youtube it! lol

the non live straight to podcast thing was something George mentioned months ago to a few people after a taping of the hour it was never a confirmed thing though

668 aka neighbour of the beast said...

if you go here..

podcasts are listed as coming soon.

Janna said...

YYYYAAAAYYYY!!!! FOR PODCASTS! Thanks 668.

668 aka neighbour of the beast said...

janna - well, when it comes to podcasts i'll believe it when i actually hear them! i mean how long did the strombo show promise them?

the time zone sucks for me too.

Music on podcasts can be problematic, because though regular radio has the rights to play music over the air, they don't have the rights to play music over the internet, ie on a podcast.

Apparently some Q podcasts are missing the music, that is why.

And CBC Radio 3 podcasts consist entirely of artists that Radio 3 has gotten permission to use their music in podcasts (the artists at newmusiccanada.ca)

So I wonder if the podcasts will be interviews/discussion only.

Music is a real pain for podcasts, because SOCAN has different rules and regulations for the different way things are broadcast (in other words, they are behind the times and there really isn't any rules... think of the recent ACTRA fiasco). The only time I've heard music on podcasts is if the person is playing in studio during the interview, such as when Blue Rodeo was on Q a few weeks back.

Speaking of Q podcasts... Stroumboulopoulos is on the October 25th podcast talking about the Geminis.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this or not, but Stroumboulopoulos was on "Q" with Jian Ghomeshi on Thursday, the 25th. It's on the podcast for that day, if you want to hear about the Geminis.

Janna said...

Hrm...
668 is right... I should also believe when I can listen... Luckily... I am not listening for the music... the interviews/debate is what usually interests me...

Well I won't worry about it until next weekend. I actually think I will be in the midst of tons of homework next Sunday so a perfect oppourtunity to listen... lol

You mean this podcast here?
I just listened to it. I missed both The Hour and Q on Thursday to go see some live music, So I thank CBC for the podcasts.

Anonymous said...

Maybe (though I can't check, part of the address is missing)... I'm subscribed to the Q podcasts, so it's the one in my list dated October 25...Stroumboulopoulos is the last guest and his interview starts about 13 minutes from the end.. or something like that. But listen to the rest of the podcast as well, the interviews are actually good... (I don't actually listen to the show, I just skim the podcasts every weekend because of personal opinions of Ghomeshi). But yeah... it's a funny interview, the Canadian Television Quiz Ghomeshi gives him is quite funny... or at least how it ends up playing out.
