A conversation with Jian Ghomeshi Part 1 & 2

Pictures are of Jian,
Shelley, Lorraine and Stephanie the She Asked crew.

Jian Ghomeshi has been among many things, a correspondent for The Hour the past three seasons... no word about this season. The man is pretty busy with his radio show Q .

I hope he does do a feature for The Hour this season because something fun happens when those two boys are on the set together.

This spring Jian was kind enough to invite us to his Q studio. He played the piano while we set up the cameras for our She Asked Jian Ghomeshi interview. Did Jian know what he was getting into? I have to say it turned into a very long circular conversation full of funny moments and surprises. We really enjoyed it!

The studio is lit for radio not for romantic effect... in other words, our apologies for the dark video. We are presenting it in two parts 15 minutes each.

Part 1

And for you, without farther ado, Jian from Q...part 2

OK I will be the first to comment.
If you watch the interviews through... good on you. I know it's long and not editied in short bite size pieces but a lot gets said. And near the end sometimes it's not in sync... or maybe it's my computer. Anyway. I recommend watching the entire 30 minutes in two parts if you are interested in going into music or broadcasting and it's also good for some laughs.. Jian is a funny and engaging man.

I hope you edited (not editied) it yourself and that someone didn't volunteer themselves to do it because you don't sound too pleased with the editing. If someone else did it I would have hoped you'd be more grateful. Unless of course you paid them to do the work and then you'd have cause to complain.

Jian was interesting though.

I tried to listen to the interviews last night, but I was too fidgety... perhaps I will try again tonight.

Anyway, as I posted on the "This week starts with the Geminis" post... there is apparently going to be a student doc about George S. on CFRB this Sunday during the show "CFRB presents...", which ironically is the time slot the Strombo Show occupied. Thought people would be interested...

Thank you E. G. I didnt mean to sound ungrateful. we all volunteer around here and Stephanie Murano and Shelley D'Souza volunteered to edit and they did a great job... I was just wondering if my computer or server was at fault and would like to know if anyone else experiences the sound sync problems.. it could be a glitch with google I just don't know.

Thank you Mich. I will listen for it.

One more note: George told us that Paul wrote the opening skit for the Gemini Awards and they will be putting it up on youtube.

That's fantastic... I have a lot of friends in the States who want to see the opener... because I kept raving about it. It was an awesome opener... Paul did a great job with it. The Alberta girl in me is still giggling...

One more hot tip....
In tomorrow’s National Post (Sat Nov 3) “Ben Kaplin shadows Canada’s own Renaissance hipster man, George Stroumboulopoulos, to find out how to be a TV host.”

That tip from my dad.
Thanks Dad.

Totally random and sort of not on topic, yet still on topic (how's that for a convoluted opening???)...

The Q podcast for Monday, October 29th has a little bit of Gemini discussion off the top of the show. Unfortunately, it then downgraded to a discussion of American television and what's going on there... but the first few minutes of the conversation is interesting.

Just thought I'd share...

This is hilarious. Bravo, Barbara.

That douche site is also hilarious. Thanks, anon. I posted it on my web site.

To me, Jian Ghomeshi is a warm and charming person. He was very kind to let us do this. He seems like a good soul. I know he is a very hard worker.
I had a great time doing this interview even if I suck at interviewing I don't care.
and I don't judge a man by his stutter...

And then the CBC critics took their Thorazine, overdosed, tripped over the ferret and fell out of a tenth storey winow. Their witless brainless bodies crashed on top of a small volkswagen , thus damaging the windsheild: however the car's occupants escaped unharmed.
the producers laughed, we all laughed, a good time whad by all.

How nasty some of you are about Jian. I think he is the breath of fresh air that C.B.C. needed for a long time. Smart, sassy, not intimidated by his more well known and fawned over guest he has on..which I might add is a tribute to him that they even want to come on C.B.C radio. Oh yeah, and easy on the eyes which we now can all see on Friday nights on the telly.

Can't take much of this "wannabe" Jian...How much do you want to bet that his lame "Q" show gets the axe VERY soon!

There are many more deserving, talented people that could be doing the Q show and when Jian is away we get to experence them -- that's when I tune into Q.

This man is boring, dull, lame and a wannabe hipster. Go back to that cheesy folk band you were in Jian, because those were your good years -- it's all down-hill from here.

Anonymous said...

Oh, my! Jian and that pasty mouth. Huffing and snorting his way through an interview. Let's not forget the stammering and studdering.

His show will not last! This I happen to know for a fact -- shocking, eh?

Anonymous said...

Hey LOSER- why don't you sign a name, coward? Better yet, if YOU'RE so fucking eloquent, get your OWN damn show and stop boring us to tears with your incessant whining.

Anonymous said...

Okay, for the two whiny losers who, as Jian points out, never have the jam to sign a name to their ramblings:
If you're so talented and articulate: GET YOUR OWN SHOWS AND STOP BORING US TO TEARS WITH YOUR INCESSANT WHINING!!

"Go back to that cheesy folk band you were in, Jian"

That "cheesy rock band" that you obviously never listened to means a lot to many of us. It sure is easy to be mean on the internet, isn't it?

Lady Diablo said...

It was so cool to hear and watch Jian play it totally cool while Bully Bob Thornton made himself into a utter fool.
As for all the whiners: get your own fucking show if you think you can do better. Can you? Very much doubt it, since most of you don't have the backbones to sign your lousy names. Jian once pointed out that any hate mail he gets is usually anonymous. Guess you whiners just can't back up your own bullshit, even in writing.
