What's up? What's goin' on?

From 24Th to the 28Th

The Hour will feature the following guests and more
Monday
Canadian Mixed Martial Arts fighter Georges St-Pierre battles it out with Ranter extraordinaire Rick Mercer. Rick thought it was just an interview to promote his new book... and he would be right. I don't think there will be any conflict between the two guests.
Tuesday
The Emmy Award winning, radical and scintillating Phil Donahue
Wednesday
Foo Fighters have something to say
as does Dr Jane Goodall and she says"We have the choice to use the gift of our lives to make the world a better place"
Thursday
Your favourite, Kevin Smith writer, actor, director, popular speaker and smodcaster.
You may have heard on The Hour that George will be hosting the Geminis this year but did you know he is also an Executive Producer for the show?

Wonder what the role of Executive Producer involves - is that everything from who will be invited to appear, order of awards presented, to staging ? Interesting anyway.

the role of a producer is very hard to define. it's a title that a lot of times is in name only.

I think it involves Georges production company actually producing the Geminis. He talks about it a bit on Monday nights show.

Now Canadians can not watch the Geminis, just like they don't watch The Hour. Can't wait to read all about how it will fail just like the rest of the CBC-TV season.

betty,
any chance your last name rhymes with Morenson?

The opinion of a person who wouldn't watch a show JUST because of the host, wouldn't matter much anyway, would it?

I knew nothing about GSP, now I know more. Rick could talk about quantum physics and I would still find him funny!

Kevin Smith... I am laughing already. Going to be another great week.

a host doesn't influence your viewing habits?

Betty, I'm curious...what makes you think that people "don't watch The Hour"? If the ratings are as abysmal as your comment suggests, why was it renewed for a FOURTH season?

I think it's great that the Geminis are, for the first time, open to public at large and not just a televised industry event. What a great opportunity to promote the work of Canada's own. There IS good Canadian programming out there...perhaps you just haven't found it yet...

668 (Love the name)
Influence, yes. The be all to end all? No.

I was sooo glad to hear Nikki Payne's
BSE. I had forgot all about her...hilarious.

The point isn't that it's not good show - it has potential. I just don't think the CBC gives it enough support to be a better show and get better ratings. If you saw The Hour's ratings every night compared to what CTV and Global get in that timeslot, you would be concerned. They brought it back for a fourth season because George makes Kirstine Layfield cream her sensible, old lady underwear. I'm not saying he's a bad host, he's just valued for the wrong reasons.

carol s - thanks... :)

i, personally, would very rarely if ever watch a show where i hate the host. to me it doesn't make sense. why waste my time? for example, i can not stand jay leno so i never watch the tonight show. it would have to be an exceptional guest to make me tune in. (let me make this clear, this is a statement about me, not a knock against anyone else.)

but then i guess my opinion doesn't matter. :)

668,

Putting into words (especially written ones) what I am actually thinking is not one of my strong points. Never was... I prefer in person conversation and then there is body language, eye contact, eye brow action... you get my point. There are boring reasons why I have resolved to improve my pathetic writing skills, but know this... I always have a smile on my face when I type... love humour and sarcasm. (a bit of wine and great food never hurts either)

If I was a loyal viewer of the Geminis, each and every year, I would not not watch it one year, just because I didn't like the host. That's what I was getting at... : ) Daily or weekly shows? Different story.

Using the word "opinion" was a bad choice on my part.

carol s,

i do understand the problems with the written word. :)

your explanation makes way more sense now. even as a jay leno hater, i would tune in to the oscars.
