The interview with George Stroumboulopoulos...

View above or click here.

People had complained about the low sound so the post was pulled down and the audio levels raised. It was learned that the interviewed had been copied, edited and reposted by someone else without authorization and thought it best to remove the controversial segment in the Stroumboulopouli version so as not to distract from the rest of the things discussed. Now let's back to focusing on the show.

After you watch the video we thought you may like a few links to some of the things George talks about.

The guilty pleasure songs and singers on George's ipod are listed as follows.

This Train Don't Stop There Anymore Elton John

Its Still Rock And Roll To Me Billy Joel

You understand that entire works may be reproduced under the Copyright Act’s fair-dealing provision if there is no other way to deal with them fairly, as by review or criticism?

Anyway, your claim is bullshit. You clearly don’t understand what the embed tag or object element in HTML actually do.

And it’s great to see that you have confirmed the widespread belief that you’re burying your lede. You got an actual scoop from your hero, you unilaterally decided it was in some way “controversial” (i.e., embarrassing), and you’re trying to kill it. Welcome to the Internet, where content is very hard to kill. We all know exactly what you’re doing, and now you’ve admitted it.

Odd as well that you say someone else performed an "edit" on the original when none had occurred until you made one.
Anyway, no one was fooled from the getgo.
Why you would think trying to hurt Ouimet's feelings would accomplish anything is a poor arguement.
But the worst really is to actually lie about this.
Poor sportsmanship, ladies, and a milestone in this blog.
We all saw it once it was pointed out.
You can't really erase history. Even if the video disappeared, the accurate quote was there in print, and I'd be surprised if George would deny having said it.
And I can't help but wonder what would have happened if you had simply reached out to Ouimet, explained the situation and asked for understanding.
I know for a fact, after nearly a year in conversation with her that she is very protective of your blog and cares quite a bit for the welfare of some of it's participants.
She's always hinting at me to go easy.
But she's also busy, and who else am i supposed to play with over The Hour and it's host and the CBC's idea of what I want and need.
She also answers every email. In fact, the exact opposite of your boyfriend, and she's plenty popular, don't you know.
An apology, at any time, wouldn't kill you.
But, to be frank, I suspect she still cares about you guys and your efforts as much as she ever did. More than you obviously realize. Meatheads.
Adorable meatheads.

Who did a fantastic job with this video.
Which I'd like to discuss a bit more with you.

Joe, it's not about the law it about motivation and intent.
You are right I am not a programmer, I don't even know html...
I am just trying out new things in life. Life is too short not to try. I am just learning as I go...
Are you accusing me of being loyal?
:-)
Meh. I will shoulder the blame.
If all else fails you can blame it on me.
Now enough with the negativity...
George is an amazing interviewee and because of all the pot stirring he will probably never do this again...

The edit in question I think they are referring to is the You Tube video posted by someone named ALLANINTO. It is not the original full length version but just the "scoop" which I guess was passed onto Ouimet who posted it on her blog.

anonymous is slowly getting the picture. Allaninto could also be read as Allan In T.O., and it doesn't take much to discover his full name.
But who cares.
Let him get famous on someone else's dime.

George was not doing another sit-down for quite some time regardless, barabara, even if everything had gone smoothly.
And more than one person missed the obvious.
Except Shinan.
He's quick.

And George does interviews every night with the audience anyway, doesn't he?
Wonder if anyone will ask about Canadian Idol.
And how often the question will come up.

Allan maybe Ouimet should have contacted this blog after the ruckus was started - by you it's worth pointing out - had you chosen to respect the ladies of the stroumboulopouli and not decided to farm one piece of the interview out to anyone who would listen this entire thing would have been avoided

Well, I realize I'm Pseudonymous Enemy #1 in these parts, and Joe and Allan have pretty much covered it, but I do want to clear one thing up.

I'm not sorry for anything I did.

Also, I'm not sure why everyone is so angry about this. Why is it so important to cover up the fact that George was offered a job at Canadian Idol? He was a natural choice. He might have been good at it.

I will always be supportive of you ladies, just as I have been from the beginning. But I guess the lesson you can take away from this is: If it's supposed to be secret, don't put it on the internet.

Our interview with George, only louder!...

and shorter

An irony of the whole thing is that I, for one, could not even hear the interview properly as first configured and totally missed the 'comment' now under fire until brought to light!

I am glad to know everyone can hear it now.
A few of the things G said surprised me, like his choices in music... and favourite cities for music... one being Barrie... they have sold the land in Barrie that that concert George talked about enjoying was at...
It's gone like so many good things...

To the two guys who do nothing but complain...

Lead by example. Set up your own interview and put it on the web. Show us how to do it.

No sense trying to act superior and point out the flaws unless you can show how it should be done.

Let's see what you've got.

Thanks for the volume increase !
I found another thing surprising that was revealed in the interview - George mentioned he wasn't ambitious - then would he only be driven? Does not driven = ambition ? He always seems flat out busy and hardly sleeps. I suppose his priorities could shift at some point later on. He mentioned too he would like to produce an after school show for teenagers? questions ... questions

I think the after school video show idea is great... remember Video Hits? You know, way back before Much Music...
I think that idea has merit...

Miss A said...

I DO remember Video Hits...but who hosted it? I think it was Dan Gallagher. But wasn't there someone else as well? Also, there was another song "countdown" show hosted by I think Stu or Stuart. I can't remember what the show was called. Do you remember the details of that one? I thought it was on the CBC.

miss a.. it was Stu Jeffries.. and I think he did Video Hits too

Miss A said...

Thanks anonymous. I emailed my friend about this yesterday. While I was into the music, she was more into the video aspect of the music. She emailed back and said she remembered Stu Jeffries hosting Good Rockin' Tonight. That was the other show I was thinking of. I'm not sure he hosted Video Hits though...

prairiegirlwarriorpoet said...

I'm pretty sure Stu Jeffries did Good Rockin' Tonight and Samantha Taylor and Dan Gallagher did Video Hits. It's been awhile, but that's how I remember it. Loved both shows. I only had 5 channels growing up, CBC was one of the best. Fraggle Rock, Degrassi, The Nature of Things, all great. I remember racing off the school bus to tape videos on our new VCR. Ahhh the good old days...

Brooksie said...

I remember those shows too and the big deal it was to tape the videos. I also used to tape songs from the radio back in my teens years. Today's kids don't know how good they have it with the net and YouTube. ;-)

Miss A said...

This is like a trip down memory lane. I can't remember which Toronto radio station had a countdown on a weekend morning(I'm sure there was more than one), but I'd sit in my room and tape the whole show every week and then listen to the tape during the week. I recall a tape jamming in the boom box and thinking it was the end of the world. Oh, to be a teenager again :-D. You know, I think I still have some of those cassettes in a box somewhere in my basement.

Terry David Mulligan also did Good Rockin' Tonight.
