Season 9 Week 1

George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight
has a new set, a new time and a new look to the website!
The new season starts Monday September 17 and airs at 7pm and repeats at 11:30 pm.

That is just a few of the changes. The show is half an hour long and ends with a comedic panel discussion of  some choice issues.
There are of course great guests and interviews as always. There is more content offered online such as extended interviews and current issues and information of interest to all of us.

The Stroumboulopouli plan to pay close attention to the panel discussions and comment or contribute if occasion warrants right here on this blog.

Sunday September 16
The Strombo Show on CBC Radio 2 on your radio. It can also be found on CBC Music.
Sunday Service is back and school is in session on this premiere episode of The Strombo Show's third season. We make up for those repeats by rifling through some of the best tracks that dropped throughout the summer season. Darby Wheeler nods to the return of the greats in 'Old is the new Young' and Alex 'The Can-Con Don' Narvaez drops in to discuss a few of his favourite hip-hop jams. As always, we offer up the Magnificent Seven to count down the hottest songs of the week that includes Frank Ocean, The XX and Propaghandi. Also, DJ Carisma of Power 106 delivers her LA-kissed sound in the blend. There is no doubt that the spirit of radio is alive and well.

I have watched the first 2 episodes of the new series and I thought it was cool. I'm a bit pissed that they are always tweaking the format each year. (I know it's budget-related but still...)

Some things I was curious about.

It looks like The Friday episode has been changed and there is no more live music and is now just shortened versions of two of the best interviews of the week.

Also concerning the panel at the end, I know that there will be a new third panelist every night, but what about the other two seats? Will it always be Ali Hassan and that girl Naomi or will they continue to rotate each week? I guess when I look at the tickets section and you see "appearance by so and so" that means that they will be a panel guest.

Finally, Are all the other sections gone? Is the format now interview/panel? Is there no more debrief? Best Story Ever? Something you might not know about Canada? Will those return from time to time? I did see that in the premiere they mentioned that there was going to be an appearance by Rick Campanelli, but I missed it. I was just curious if there was a set format for the show now.

There is no more live music but there are still talking about making a Christmas special as per usual.

We are going to review The Panel in a post coming up soon.

Ali and Naomi are the regulars but if unavailable, there will be a regular rotation of panelists but usually only one special guest panelist. From what I understand.

Rick Campanelli was a taped message at the top of the show. There will be other clips of people and stories each show as needed. I don't see why there can't be an occational Best Story Ever or Defining Moment when they do that.

Thanks for writing you comment!
