Congrats goes to Jian not George

There was a weird little rumour started by a comment on Strombo.com that got everyone concerned for about two minutes. Some woman names Mary was listening to what a little bird told her about George having a baby.... now birdsong can be sophisticated and sometimes misunderstood (ie the killdeer) but we are wondering where she got that idea. Maybe he is putting on a bit of weight this summer and looks a little pregnant? Not sure. Maybe you could cut out the poutine G! No don't worry about it. Enjoy Montreal and all it offers, including poutine.
George answered that question about babies once a for all on his facebook page. No babies for him. No Mrs. Stroumboulopoulos' either despite the t-shirts that Much Music sold .

But Jian Ghomeshi is to be congratulated for becoming a new uncle. He has a picture of the little darling Kiana on his facebook page. If you can't get to his facebook page... take my word for it she is really cute.

Miss A. also gave us a link to an article about Jian's home, featured in the Toronto Star.

Our interview with Jian and Nile Seguin are still in post-production and we hope to be posting them in August.

What's on this week on CBC? More of your favourite The Hour episodes weeknights at 11pm.

Monday: Muhammad Yunus, Billy Connolly, Catherine O'Hara and the Foo Fighters.
Tuesday: Gore Vidal, Ivan Reitman, Debbie Travis and Romeo Dallaire.
Wednesday:Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nickelback, Mia Farrow and Stephen King.
Thursday: Terry Tamminen, Howie Mandel, BNL and Rachel Weisz.
If you don't remember who these people are, it's time to watch 'em again.

Sunday's The Strombo show will be hosted by Ryan Doyle, last I heard...
That's all.

why were people concerned? a) it is no one's business if he was having a baby and b) why the concern? because it wasn't one of them/you having his baby?

i love george. i love the shows. but his personal life is his personal life, just as my personal life is mine. i dont think its something people should be blogging about, commenting on or getting all concerned over.

just my two cents.

Dear Anonymous,
I wrote George when I heard the rumour and then saw his reply on facebook... I let him know I was thinking about this blog post to quash the rumour for the people who heard the first part on strombo.com yet don't know his answering reply. He knew when I was thinking of writing it and he knew when I wrote it. He does not seem to have a problem with it. If he did he knows how to contact me.

He has said publicly a number of times he does not want babies...our concern as people that have heard this from him many times is that perhaps someone was trying to trap him. But as I said it was a concern for two minutes because we know he is smarter than that...
All I was doing was trying to quash a rumour I knew to be false. His personal life is still a total mystery.

Why is georges personal life a mystery?

Barbara said...

Perhaps mystery is the wrong word that implies curiosity... it's probably a personal life like anyone else's.

Anon - why wouldn't george's life be a mystery? Why as a tv viewer should I know anything that he does off-air?

Anonymous @ 7:29pm,

Let's rephrase your question...why should his life be an open book?

Everyone in the public eye is entitled to personal time, out of the spotlight.

Speaking of personal life how trustworthy/genuine is the source reporting for the Remedial Media page of the 'frank' publication: specifically, 'frank' vol 2,issue #41 July 4 07 re: K. Layfield and Strombo ... what is that all about ?

Allan Sorensen said...

The Layfield thing is just a bad joke, from someone who ran out of ideas.
It's also in poor taste.
If George was going to be a parent it would make all the newspapers, and rightly so.

Why no mention of the Ryerson Review article on George?
Shouldn't you guys be using Google alerts to keep up on all things Strombo?

Barbara said...

Frank is a rag. Point finale.

The Ryerson Article got a nice post on inside the cbc (link on the right hand side)... I had been waiting for that article to come out for 7 or 8 months now. That's how long ago it was written. It was written near the beginning of season three. I am not sure how relevant it is at the dawn of season four. I have not had a chance to see this issue in my hands yet. It's always a great magazine to read cover to cover.

It is not the job of this blog to dispell rumours re. Mr. Stroumboulopoulos' personal life. I was under the impression that this is a fan blog and not his official site. It should be left to him to "quash" rumours. When fan sites get into rumour mongering/acknowledging they perpetuate the problem. It's only my opinion but I think the ladies of the Stroumboulopouli should stick to discussing The Hour, The Strombo Show and related guests/topics and leave gossip and rumours to other sites. Responding to such things only cheapens the site and makes it just another run of the mill fan site. This site has always been better than that..

Barbara said...

I'm sorry I didn't catch your name. If your are going to leave an opinion and advice on how to do my job, how about leaving a name. What other fan sites are we talking about?
I was uncertain about quashing a rumour. I looked up job discription and quashing rumours was not listed, so I just tried it. I think the rumour is quashed now. Sometimes GS brings out the mother in me and I just want to step in and do something. But that's just me. The other stroumbi are on summer vacation so it's just me at the desk... sorry if my actions offended.

Anonymous @ 11:22am,

Unfortunately, there are some who consume content on the internet and believe what they are reading to be truth. I'm sure we can all think of at least one example of when the most innocent of comments has been blown out of proportion and generated needless attention.

I'm unclear as to how quashing a rumour actually perpetuates it.

If you read the banner @ the top of the page, it might give you more insight into this blog. Under it, we also have: What We Are All About - "Promoting healthy discussion on the latest issues"
What's not healthy about quashing rumours? Albeit, it's not extremely newsworthy, however, it's still keeping people in the loop.

Barbara, I think you're doing a bang up job. If you weren't, this blog wouldn't have placed 3rd in the contest, and you wouldn't have links from so many other semi & official sites/blogs.

"mrs.stroumboulopoulos'??? Who's managing my buddy george's personal well being? I'm sure certain, George's mama,( my/SOON TO BE. mama in-law) doesn't want to hear of "other women" , talking nonscense....GEORGE, SAY SOMETHING!!! PS., Barb, I have always felt a wonderful sense of mystery, with men who have goatees...
