Is it just me or was season 2 a little more G rated that the first season? And they lost their 'team' (except for Jian)... It's really quite fun to see how it changed :)
I enjoyed Season One far more than Season Two. I thought Season One had more actual news and much better interviews. The emphasis on Season Two leaned too much towards fluff, which I think we get far too much of without trying. I don't need to see it on CBC.
I absolutely hate "The News" but in reading different blogs I see not everyone shares my opinion.
Never could understand why he went all the way to California to do a stint with their soldiers training when we have the same kind of facilities here. I think he should have visited Canadian not American soldiers. What a morale boost that would have been for our own men and women in uniform. But then when he signed on for, "The One" it kind of explained a lot.
i miss peter! i actually think that there was a little too much george in season two ie.. he really needs a "sidekick" to shake things up. which is one of the reasons i really enjoy his radio show (although bob is way more than just a sidekick)
By the way 668 I know you said you enjoy bonnie 'prince' billy too. I only have his Master and Everyone CD. Can you recommend any others in any of the names he goes by? thanks
I agree, in comparing the first season to the second, the first was looser and less structured with a heavier emphasis on George carrying the program the second season. It was a good promotional idea to host the show from other cities though.
It might be coincidental but The Playlist wasn't incorporated into the show again after a guest contributor on Jian's radio show, commenting on a contender for top song, voiced her indelicately-put opinion about Flack's "Killing Me Softly". That was not a highlight!
One idea for the re-formatted show in the fall is to have an in-house audience.
Alice I have been running a campaign at the CBC for them to hire me to 'wrangle' that in-house audience... They must be getting sick of me asking. How else am I going to meet all The Hour fans and find out what they would like to see on the blog? I also want to know what they like about The Hour. Note to self:lets do another survey... Stroumbi would you like to do another survey?
668, I agree with you totally! Bob is way more than a sidekick. Ask any of my friends and they'll tell you that one of my many catchphrases is "Gotta love that Bob"... he doesn't get enough credit :)
One thing that will be different this season on The Hour is the credits will roll by and you will see Bob's name there...so the man will get credit Becky. ;-) Alice I remember that NPL show...I know people who talk like that all the time so it was not shocking to me in any way. I am not certain that is why it was cancelled though. Man, I miss the National Playlist. There are rumours that it will be back this fall.
Bob came across as being the "Voice of Reason" on the radio show and would deserve any credit due since he is instrumental with both the radio show and The Hour and influencial with those he works with.
Barbara - a survey would be a good idea to see where intents lay since it can serve as feedback and may ultimately inspire topics or ideas.
i have always liked bob, but the popcorn story he told on air sent me over the edge..:)
i am glad they are finally adding proper credits. that's always bugged me as i am a credit fiend. season two definately had a less live, more structured vibe.
i was told that they were going to rotate the show out of town every six weeks or so. starting with montreal and vancouver. that was last season so i don't know if they were not able to, or that they were planning it for this year.
i remember that NPL show and jully black (i think that's her name) made me laugh so hard. i didn't realize that was the last one, but i do seem to recall that when it did disappear, the next few wednesdays were all out of town show or best of's.
hopefully they will add in some kind of musical element like the NPL or the canadian list (i can't remember the name of it) from season one.
toccata - will get back to you on bonnie prince billy later. my comment is already long enough..:
